To coincide with Durham University's symposium with Kavli-International Astronomical Union entitled '(Toward) Discovery of Life Beyond Earth and its Impact' Street Cosmos held a free family session on astrobiology: a field which studies life's origin, evolution, and existence in the universe.
Dr Hermine Landt, Durham University physicist and chair of the Kavli-IAU symposium, gave a short presentation on the search for life in the universe, and artist- Helen Schell led a family crafts workshop to explore these big themes.
Merryoaks Community Hall was packed with over 60 people keen to learn about life on other planets, and people gave their own thoughts, hopes, and even fears, over a free cup of tea and biscuits.
The event 'sold out' within 24 hours, showing how interested we all are in this growing field of scientific discovery.
